Many officers remained absent from the Karnataka Development Programme review meetings without taking permission.

Zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer K.M. Narayanaswamy has said action will be initiated against officers who don’t attend the Karnataka Development Programme review meetings.

He was addressing officers at such a review meeting at the zilla panchayat hall here on Wednesday. As soon as the meeting began, Babu Reddy, president of the zilla panchayat standing committee on social justice, claimed that many officers did not take permission for not attending the meetings. This showed their interest towards people’s problems.

“Officers have continued to remain absent from the meetings for the past year. They have not responded to notices served on them by higher-ups,” he added. In response, Mr. Narayanaswamy said action would be initiated against the erring officers. “Notices would be served on those who were absent.”

As the district is facing drinking water shortage owing to poor rainfall, action plans for the supply of drinking water should be prepared and approved as early as possible. Water should be supplied to villages in tankers, he added.

Some members said the charges paid to tanker operators in Chitradurga were higher than those in other districts; therefore, the supply of water in tankers should stopped immediately. Mr. Narayanswamy said the bills would be kept pending till the charges were verified.
