Off-seasonal showers that lashed several parts of Kalaburagi district on the night of Tuesday and Wednesday and in the morning on Thursday cooled down the city that had been reeling under high temperature for the last few weeks.
The city received 11.3 mm rainfall against the normal rainfall of 0.4 mm, during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday.
As a result, the maximum temperature was down from 39 degrees Celsius on Tuesday to 35 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
The maximum temperature dipped further on Thursday to 33 degrees Celsius owing to the early morning rain and cloudy weather.
Low-lying areas in the city, including the Goa Hotel area, Lalgiri Cross and Old Jewargi Road Underpass, were water-logged due to blocked drains and culverts affecting traffic movement for hours. City Municipal Corporation staff were busy clearing blocked drains and culverts, while the police were finding it difficult to manage traffic.
