NWKRTC staff protest against MD’s transfer

Mazdoor Sangh wants the order to be rescinded

September 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - HUBBALLI:

Seeking a rescind of the transfer order of Managing Director of North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) Vinoth Priya, members of the NWKRTC Mazdoor Sangh, staged a demonstration here on Wednesday.

The members, led by the sangh president Subhas Singh Jamadar, general secretary Bhadresh Halagali, Hanumanthappa Itagi and others, staged the dharna from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of Mini Vidhana Soudha on Lamington Road.

‘Scams unearthed’

The members alleged that the transfer of Ms. Priya was a result of efforts by a lobby of corrupt officials and vendors, who had allegedly cheated the transport corporation of crores of rupees.

Addressing the protestors, Mr. Subhas Singh said that within eight months of assuming office, Ms. Priya had unearthed the scams in the regional workshop.

She had not only suspending five officials and transferred three officers but also initiated steps to conduct an impartial probe into the scam.

“It is really unfortunate that the upright officer has been transferred at a time when the probe into the workshop was over and charges were being framed. The officer had even initiated steps to inquire into another scam in the sale of scrap and civil works of the transport corporation,” he said.

Cancellation sought

The other speakers at the dharna condemned the State government’s move of transferring the officer heading the corporation instead of acting against those who had caused loss to the tune of crores of rupees.

They demanded immediate cancellation of the order on transferring Ms. Priya as Deputy Commissioner of Koppal. The protestors subsequently submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister to Hubballi tahsildar H.D. Nagavi.
