A day after a leader of the BJP Yuva Morcha was arrested on the charge of abetting the suicide of 20-year-old college student, who was allegedly harassed for having a friendship with a Muslim boy, members of Bajrang Dal, Mudigere unit, have been circulating a message warning girls against befriending boys from other religions.

In the WhatsApp message, that has gone viral in the district, Bajrang Dal activists have threatened to thrash the girls if they were found spending time with boys from other religions.

Leaders of the Bajrang Dal defended the message stating that it was being spread to avoid instances of ‘Love Jihad.’

Tudukuru Manjunath, Chikkamagaluru district convener of Bajrang Dal told The Hindu said the message was intended to protect Hindu girls from falling into ‘Love Jihad’ trap. “Many Hindu girls have become victims of Love Jihad?” he said.

Our local leaders have circulated the message with the right intention, he said. “If a Hindu girl is seen spending time with a boy from another community, we can’t keep quiet. Do you expect us to call police when someone is being murdered or being raped? We act to save the victims,” he said.
