Minister for Energy Shobha Karandlaje on Monday said she was not interested in becoming president of the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Speaking to mediapersons here, she said there was no truth in reports published in a section of the media that she was an aspirant for the post. “I am ready to shoulder the responsibility of the general secretary’s post in the State unit of the BJP and not that of president,” the Minister said.
The party has launched membership drive recently and the new president would not be appointed in the next few days. Asked about likely candidates for the post, Ms. Karandlaje said: “Some party people drop names of leaders to get publicity.” No discussion on electing a new president had taken place in the party till today, she said.
On Sunday, Medium and Large Industries Minister Murugesh R. Nirani said he was not an aspirant for the State BJP president’s post.
The central leaders of the BJP had summoned the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to Delhi last week and reportedly discussed various names, including some Ministers, to the post.
