The members of Karnataka Rajya Vasathi Shaale Bodhaketara Sibbandigala Okkuta, a forum of non-teaching staff serving with various government-owned residential schools and hostels, staged a protest in the city on Thursday for fulfilment of their various demands.
Addressing the protest meet, president of the Okkuta, Suman Hettur, demanded the regularisation of services of non-teaching staff serving on a contract basis for many years at residential schools and hostels run by the government. It is unfortunate that the non-teaching staff are forced to work for paltry sums of money, she said.
The period of service rendered by the workers on contract basis should also be considered for regularisation. At present, workers are not paid salaries when the hostels are closed during Dasara and summer vacations. She pressed for the payment of salaries during vacations too. Functionaries of the Okkuta Radha Sundaresh, M.C. Dongre and Anil Kumar took part.
