The nominations for the elections to the 224-member Karnataka Legislative Assembly will open on Wednesday (April 10) with Governor H.R. Bhardwaj issuing the notification. The polls are scheduled on May 5 and the counting of votes will be taken up on May 8.

The last date for filing nomination is April 17 and on the next day, the papers will be scrutinised. The last date of withdrawal of candidature, if any, will be April 20.

The Election Commission , in an order passed on Monday, allotted ‘coconut’ as the election symbol of the Karnataka Janata Paksha, which is a registered un-recognised political party, subject to other conditions, as a concession in the allotment of common symbol under the provisions of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968.

The Samajwadi Janata Party (Karnataka), SDPI, BSR Congress and Lok Satta Party have also been given concession in the allotment of symbols.
