Searing heatwave conditions in Hyderabad Karnataka and parts of Bombay Karnataka continuedon Sunday.
Raichur recorded the State’s maximum temperature of 43 degree Celsius. This was followed by 42.2 degree Celsius and 42 degree Celsius maximum temperature recorded in Kalaburgi and Bidar respectively, as per the observations recorded by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday.
The maximum temperature recorded by Raichur and Bidar were 3 degree Celsius more than the temperatures recorded on the same day last year.
Vijayapura and Bagalkot in Bombay Karnataka region also recorded a maximum temperature of 41 and 39 degree Celsius respectively. Ballari recorded a maximum temperature of 39.5 degree Celsius. Koppal recorded a maximum temperature of 39 degree Celsius and Gadag recorded a maximum temperature of 38 degree Celsius.
There was no respite for the people of the region even during the night with unfriendly weather conditions. Bidar recorded the State’s highest minimum temperature of 30 degree Celsius followed by 27.2 and 27 degree Celsius minimum temperature recorded in Kalaburagi and Raichur respectively. A minimum temperature of 30 degree Celsius was recorded in Bidar. Ballari recorded a minimum temperature of 26 degree Celsius.
As per IMD predictions, the heatwave conditions would continue for next 24 hours.
The severe heatwave conditions came as a boon to tender coconut merchants who jacked up the prices on Sunday to Rs. 35 each as against the normal price ranging from Rs.15 to Rs. 20.
The fruit juice stalls also did good business in Kalaburagi. All the major roads wore a deserted look.
