Senior Janata Dal (S) leader G.T. Deve Gowda on Friday took charge of the higher education portfolio and clarified that he would not seek any change in the portfolio.
Mr. Gowda had publicly expressed reservation over accepting the portfolio. On Friday, he formally inaugurated his ministerial office in the Vidhana Soudha.
Replying to queries by reporters, he said the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore K.S. Rangappa had not requested him to appoint him as higher education adviser. Similarly, the Chief Minister too had not recommended his name for such an appointment. He said he would take the suggestion of all education experts, including Mr. Rangappa, on improving the higher education sector.
