The Bharatiya Janata Party asserted on Thursday that its leadership did not put any pressure on the Karnataka government to get Advocate-General B.V. Acharya to quit his post.
Party president Nitin Gadkari said there was no truth in the charge of Mr. Acharya, who is the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) in the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, that the government was putting pressure on him to resign from his post.
Mr. Acharya told The Hindu on Wednesday, “The State government was apparently under pressure from its central leadership [BJP] that I should quit from the position of SPP in the case against Ms. Jayalalithaa.”
Talking to reporters after launching a web portal of the youth wing of the party, Mr. Gadkari refused to elaborate further on the subject.
