No let up in heat wave

Hyderabad Karnataka and parts of Bombay Karnataka continued to suffer under a severe heat wave with Kalaburagi recording the State’s highest maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees Celsius as per the observations by the India Meteorological Department at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday.

Isolated rain in parts of Hyderabad Karnataka and Bombay Karnataka did not bring down the day and night temperatures which continue to rise. While Raichur recorded 2 cm of rain, Hirekerur in Haveri district recorded 3 cm and Kottur in Ballari district recorded 1 cm.

The maximum temperature recorded by Kalaburagi was 1 degree Celsius more than the temperature recorded on the same day in previous years.

Bidar closely recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius which was 2 degrees Celsius more than the previous years’ recordings on the same day.

Vijayapura recorded a maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees Celsius.

Raichur recorded a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius and Ballari and Koppal recorded a maximum temperature of 40 and 30 degrees Celsius respectively. Bagalkot recorded a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius and Gadag and Belagavi airport recorded 38 degrees Celsius maximum temperature.

The night temperatures were also high in the region with Kalaburagi and Bidar recording the State’s highest minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius followed by Raichur with 26 degrees Celsius and Ballari and Koppal with 25 degrees Celsius.

Sources in the IMD said that there would be rain or thundershowers in places in south interior Karnataka and at isolated places in coastal and Hyderabad Karnataka and Bombay Karnataka.

Dharmasthala and Hiriyur recorded the State’s highest rain of 5 cm, followed by Ponnampet, Hallimysore, Bandipur, Chintamani PTO with 4 cm and Shikaripura, Belur, MM Hills, Bellur with 3 cm.
