“No fresh cases of diarrhoea have reported from B.G.Hatti on Friday,” said R. Srinivas, District Health Officer, here on Friday.

According to the information made available, 93 people from B.G. Hatti, near Arsikere, had taken ill after drinking contaminated water.

Of them, two persons have died in the last five days.

“At present, only five people are undergoing treatment at Arsikere hospital. They have shown improvement in their health condition,” Dr. Srinivas said.

Bharath (14) and Chowri Bai (55) of the village had died while undergoing treatment. Since then, the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences set up a camp in the village to treat the affected people. “So far, 93 people have been admitted to different hospitals in the district. While two have died, the rest are recovering. A woman aged about 104 years is undergoing treatment at HIMS,” he said.

The Health and Family Welfare Department collected the samples of water and found that water supplied to the village was not suitable for drinking.

“We have arranged to supply drinking water through tankers. Doctors and support staff are deputed to the village”, he said.
