A day after polling, key contenders for the Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha seat were back to their regular activity, with one of them even staging a protest at Brahmarakootlu on B.C. Road.

Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress candidates — Nalin Kumar Kateel (48) and B. Janardhana Poojary (76) — who have ensured that their health remained unaffected by their hectic schedule, attended weddings too.

Mr. Kateel participated in the annual fair at Mahalingeshwara temple at Puttur late on Thursday evening and returned home here around 2.30 a.m. on Friday to hit the bed. Mr. Poojary took his regular one-hour morning walk on Friday.

Besides visiting party office, Mr. Kateel attended “uttara kriye” ceremony and visited the house of a woman who died after casting her vote in Moodushedde on Thursday.

Mr. Kateel said that after attending a meeting at the party office in the evening he went to Pavanje to participate in the annual temple fair. For the last one month or so, Mr. Kateel used to go to bed at about 2.30 a.m. and wake up at 5 a.m. He could not spend time with his family members, with whom he now wants to go on a tour.

Change in complexion

According to Mr. Poojary’s aide Harikrishna Bantwal, the Congress leader attended a function in Uppinangady. The hectic one-month-long campaign in the heat, Mr. Harikrishna said, was reflecting on Mr. Poojary’s face. “His complexion has changed,” he said.

Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate M.R. Vasudeva (61) participated in a protest at Brahmarakootlu, near B.C. Road, against the hike in the toll collection by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Later in the evening, he addressed the media at the party’s election office at Balmatta.

He said he had tanned and that he did not have any health problem.

On his entry into the politics, the former director of Mangalore International Airport said many of his relatives and well-wishers had advised him not to join the AAP stating that it did not have a base in Mangalore. They had advised him either to join the Congress or the BJP. But he chose the AAP when the party invited him to contest.

The 50-year-old CPI(M) candidate, K. Yadava Shetty, was back to his routine of dealing with issues concerning people. Mr. Shetty left his house in Moodbidri to Devrabetta where people have problems with getting title deeds for their houses. Mr. Shetty then came down to the party office in Bolar to have discussion with his party activists about the issue.

The month-long campaign did not cause he any strain, he said. “I have been used to walking long distances and spending long time with people,” he said.
