Nine killed, 13 hurt as goods carrier overturns

Nine persons were killed and 13 sustained injuries after a goods carrier in which they were travelling overturned near Sathanur bridge on Kabbala-Channapatna Main Road near Kanakapura on Sunday evening.

The victims, residents of Gollarahatti village near Kengeri, were returning from the Kabbaleshwari temple in Kabbala village, near Kanakapura. The deceased have been identified as Veeranna (40), Gangamma (30), Bada Chittaiah (50), Chikkamma (40), Chikkaraju (01), Eliyappa (20), Raja (35), Chikkamma (35) and Manju (13). Of the 13 injured, six were being shifted to NIMHANS, Bangalore.

The accident took place while the driver was negotiating a curve, the police said. The names and details of the victims and the injured were yet to be gathered, Anupam Agarwal, Superintendent of Police, Ramanagaram district, told The Hindu .

“We rushed the injured to nearby hospitals,” Mr. Agarwal said.
