September 02, 2013 10:33 am | Updated July 01, 2016 04:46 pm IST - BANGALORE:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the State government as a large number of seats have remained vacant under the reservation clause of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education, 2009 in private unaided schools in the State. Taking suo motu cognisance of a media report that 37,000 seats guaranteed for “children belonging to weaker sections and disadvantaged groups” were lying vacant because of poor implementation of the Act, the commission, in a press release, stated that the contents of the media report, if true, raised a serious issue of violation of the Act. The notice issued to the Chief Secretary has sought a report within four weeks.
