Will the four-lane stretch connecting Mysuru with Nanjangud be extended to Gundlupet and T.Narsipur?

If the revised policy of the Government of India is any indication, then it is likely to materialise. R. Dhruvanarayan, Chamarajanagar MP, has indicated that the Government of India has revised the prerequisites for upgrading the existing two-lane national highways into four-lane.

According to the revised parameters, the traffic density on the existing two-lane NH has been reduced from 20,000 Passenger Car Units (PCU) to 10,000 PCU.

Hence, Mr. Dhruvanarayan met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari recently and submitted a memorandum seeking upgrade of the NH passing through parts of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts. The NH 766 stretch connecting Mysuru with T.Narsipur (31km) has a PCU of 19,644 while between Nanjangud and Gundlupet, the same highway has 16,445 PCU and hence qualifies for four-laning. Incidentally, the existing four-lane highway linking Mysuru and Nanjangud is part of the entire stretch connecting T.Narsipur with Gundlupet via Mysuru and Nanjangud. However, only the 21km stretch between Mysuru and Nanjangud is four-laned. With the revised norms, the entire stretch is now eligible for an upgrade.

Similarly, NH 150A linking Nanjangud with Chamarajanagar has a PCU of 16,445 and the 38.6o km stretch is an important link connecting Mysuru with the rural hinterland of Chamarajanagar. Mr. Dhruvanarayan pointed out that the above roads connect business hubs of Mysuru with those in Chamarajanagar district besides providing connectivity to the neighbouring State of Tamil Nadu and hence needs to be upgraded.
