NH officials suggest six alternative roads

Officials of the National Highways have identified six alternative roads for the vehicles to ply, once the Shiradi Ghat road is closed. Mruthyunjaya Swamy, Chief Engineer of National Highways, told presspersons that the officials had identified these alternative roads after travelling through them and examining whether they can withstand additional traffic density.

For A category vehicles such as ordinary buses, car, jeep, van and two-wheelers departing from Mangaluru to Hassan the alternative roads are:

Mangaluru-B.C. Road – Ujire - Charmadi Ghat - Mudigere-Belur- Hassan road measuring 188 km (excess of 20 km).

Mangaluru-B.C. Road – Ujire - Charmadi Ghat – Mudigere – Jannapura – Hanbal – Anemahal – Sakleshpur - Hassan measuring 190 km (excess 22 km).

For B category vehicles such as heavy commercial vehicles, multi-axle, two-axle trucks or tankers, Rajahamsa, Airavatha buses

departing from Mangaluru and arriving at Bengaluru:

Mangaluru - B.C. Road - Mani-Puttur – Madikeri – Hunsur - K.R. Nagar – Holenarsipur - Hassan road - 309 km (excess 139 km).

For both A and B category vehicles - Mangaluru to Bengaluru:

Mangaluru - B.C. Road – Mani – Puttur – Madikeri – Ilavala - Sriranga patna - Bengaluru road - 390 6km (excess 42 km).

For A category vehicles - Udupi to Bengaluru:

Udupi-Karkala-Malaghat – Kudremukh – Kalasa – Kottigehara – Mudigere – Belur – Hassan - Bengaluru road - 420 km (excess 10 km).

For A and B category vehicles - Udupi to Bengaluru:

Udupi – Kundapur – Siddapura – Hosangadi – Nagara - Hosanagara – Ayanoor – Shivamogga - Bengaluru - 469 km (excess 59 km). The officials have said that commuters could use the above six alternative roads.
