New scheme for the homeless minorities

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a new scheme for the benefit of homeless minorities.

While presenting the Budget here on Friday, Mr. Siddaramaiah proposed to provide interest subsidy by reimbursement of interest up to Rs. 1 lakh on housing loans less than Rs. 5 lakh. He said that the government will set aside Rs. 25 crore for the scheme.

Similarly, the other new schemes announced by Mr. Siddaramaiah include financial assistance for marriage of girls of minority communities, merit-cum-means scholarship to pre-matriculation and post-matriculation candidates who are unable to secure scholarship from the Union government under Centrally-sponsored schemes.

Also, two new Morarji Desai Residential Schools will be opened.

Mr. Siddaramaiah said that his government will set aside Rs. 10 crore to provide scholarship to students of the Jain community.

For, the development of minorities, Rs. 676 crore will be provided. Of this, Rs. 100 crore will be reserved for the Christian community, he said.
