Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar said here on Saturday that Karnataka would evolve a new language policy for education in two months.
He told presspersons that a meeting would be held with the Advocate General and others on December 4 in this regard.
He clarified that the government would not give permission to any institution to open English-medium schools till the new policy is announced.
He said the government is studying language policies of the neighbouring States. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had written to his counterparts in this regard.
He suggested that the Constitution be amended to bring out a clear language policy in education.
The State government had no option but to announce a language policy in view of a recent direction to it to accept an application for opening an English-medium school and the Supreme Court ruling that parents had the right to choose the medium of instruction for their children.
He reiterated that the government would recruit over 16,000 teachers by June.
