New Education Policy to focus on ‘Value Education’

Minister for Higher Education R.V. Deshpande said the State government was planning to unveil a new Education Policy that will lay emphasis on value education.

Presiding over the valedictory of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering’s (SJCE) golden jubilee celebration here on Tuesday, Mr. Deshpande said the State government has entrusted Karnataka Knowledge Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Kasturi Rangan and his team the task of formulating the State’s New Education Policy.

“Being intelligent is not enough. You should be proud of the nation and have integrity of character without which you will not have respect in the society,” he remarked while stating that the New Education Policy will accord primacy to value education that has been on a downslide lately.

Mr. Desphande also called upon the students to prepare themselves to be ready for competing in the world market while he urged the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) to have a curricula that suits the industry requirements.
