Iliyas Bhagban, newly-appointed chairman of the North-Eastern Karnataka Road transport Corporation (NEKRTC), has said that the Transport Department had decided to add 700 more buses to their fleet.
Addressing presspersons here on Friday, he said that around 590 buses, which were being manufactured at the regional workshop at Yadgir, would be introduced in another four months. As many as 110 buses were being built at a private workshop.
Mr. Bhagban said that the NEKRTC would soon take up the construction of new bus stations at Deodurg and Nalatwad in Raichur and Devarahippargi in Vijayapura district.
A workshop-cum-depot would come up in Raichur; a bus depot in Ballari and an Employees’ Bhavan at Hosapete.
Around 592 people who completed training were promoted as probationers in the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation. They would be given benefits such as health insurance, health security, and pension.
The amount for the comprehensive health benefit scheme for employees had been increased from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 20,000, he added.
