Naxalite activity in check in Karnataka: George

January 31, 2015 06:14 pm | Updated 06:21 pm IST - Udupi:

Home Minister K.J. George said on Saturday that there was not much of ‘Naxalite activity’ in the State.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. George said that the Naxalites appeared to have gone underground. The State government had a policy of encouraging Naxalites who surrendered to join the mainstream.

“If we notice any Naxalite activity, we will take action to curb it. If any Naxalite wants to surrender, a committee under the Chief Secretary studies the case and takes action,” he said.

To the charge made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders that terrorist activities were increasing in the State especially in Bhatkal and other towns in the cdistricts, Mr. George said terrorism was not confined to Karnataka. It was a problem confronting the entire country.

Asked about former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s statement that he would soon expose the entire Arkavathi Layout scam, Mr. George said: “For long, Mr. Kumaraswamy has been saying that there is a snake in the basket. Let the snake come out of the basket, we will see whether it is a rat-snake or a cobra.”
