The mass leave protest that was planned by police personnel has received support from an unexpected quarter – the Maoists.

In the wee hours of Saturday, suspected Naxals put up three banners at a bus shelter in Kaarekumbri hamlet near Agumbe in Tirthahalli taluk. In the banners, there is a call for the police personnel to “get liberated from the exploitation and lead a dignified life.” The police personnel are asked not to believe in the promises extended by the government on fulfilment of their demands and to join hands with the CPI (Maoist) to get their demands fulfilled “through the path of struggle.”

A police team from Tirthahalli under Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramachandra Naik visited the spot and seized the banners. The police have also quizzed a few locals over the incident. Following this, the forests around Agumbe and Mastikatte were combed by the personnel of the Anti-Naxal Force.
