Navaraspur Utsav draws in lovers of art, culture

The ambience, the music, the ethnicity and the captivating voice of Bollywood playback singer Javed Ali created a mystical aura at Sangeet Mahal here on Friday night. He presented some of the best Sufi songs, including the popular songs from ‘Rockstar’.

As Mr. Ali’s music touched higher octaves, the audience was literally compelled to clap and cheer him on. Mr. Ali presented his show during the three-day Navaraspur Utsav that commenced on Friday.

Prior to this thunderous performance was the presentation of jugalbandi by the veteran Mohan Veena player and Grammy award winner Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt. He and Manjunath Mysore took the audience on a musical tour. The composition and the magnetism in their instruments gave the audience a thrilling experience.

The traditional art forms of India too were presented. Spectators praised the Manipuri and Kashmiri dances at the Sangeet Mahal and the Gol Gumbaz. Shehnai, saxophone and tabla performances by various artistes provided a soothing experience to the audience. While music and dance took centre stage at these historic monuments, Mushaira, the Urdu poetry event, at the Gagan Mahal drew literature lovers to the ancient monument.Veteran poets of the country had converged to present some of their finest works in Urdu.
