Navada, Poojary chosen for folk awards

Senior research scholar A.V. Navada and artiste Ananda Poojary have been chosen for the annual Bannanje Babu Amin Folk Awards for 2014 here.

A release by the Kemmalaje Janapada Prakshana here said the awards are given to a scholar and an artiste every year.

Prof. Navada had rendered immense contribution to Tulu folk research.

His research works include ‘Kadyanata Patya Mathu Pradarshana’, ‘Ramakka Mugerti Kattida Siri Padadana’, ‘Tulu Padadanagala Bandh Mathu Rachane’.

He had been responsible for the publication of several works as Director of the Prasaranga division of Hampi Kannada University.

Mr. Poojary had been performing as ‘Darshana Patri’ for the last 65 years.

He had rendered immense contribution to the filed of Tulu ‘Bhootaradhane’.

The awards would carry cash Rs. 10,000 and a citation.

A selection committee comprising of Tulu scholar Y.N. Shetty, Gananath Yekkar and Duggappa Kajekar had chosen Prof. Navada and Mr. Poojary for the awards.

The award would be presented to them here on May 16, the release added.
