National seminar on waste management in Haveri

October 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - HAVERI:

A two-day University Grants Commission-sponsored National Seminar on ‘Recent Trends in Environmental Waste Management’ will be held at KLE Society’s Gudleppa Hallikeri College of Haveri on October 15 and 16.

In the national seminar organised by the Zoology Department of the college, deliberations will focus on the lack of long-term planning and policy reforms in the waste management sector, which is likely to lead to health and environmental crisis in the coming days unless remedial measures are taken, Principal S.B. Nadagouda has said in a release.

Municipal waste is piling up on streets and at dumpsites and local authorities, who are responsible for waste management, are unable to provide immediate solutions. The seminar will deliberate on these issues, Prof. Nadagouda has said.

Paper presentations

He has said that academicians, research scholars and students could present their papers or posters on issues like (a) green house gas management (b) technologies for waste management (c) 3R (reduce, reuse and recycle) challenges (d) management of municipal, industrial, hospital, hazardous wastes (e) challenges in clinical waste management (f) social responsibilities of citizens and organizations in the management of environmental waste (g) corporate waste management (h) e-waste management, and (i) integrated solid waste management.

Cash prizes

The best posters and papers from students and research scholars would be awarded cash prizes. For further details, contact organising secretary Prof. N.R. Birasal (94491 22732).
