Several persons had a narrow escape when a private bus by which they were travelling veered off National Highway 209 and fell 15 feet down in a forest area near Malavalli on Saturday. It occurred near Salam Bore, near Mahadeshwara Swamy temple.

The police, quoting passengers and eyewitnesses, said the accident occurred when the driver failed to control the bus that was “speeding”. It is also suspected that the driver, whom the police are yet to identify, was trying to catch up another private bus on the highway that connects Mysuru and Bengaluru with Coimbatore and some other towns of Tamil Nadu.
