Saturday’s meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party core committee, the highest decision-making body of the State unit, here will discuss, among other things, a convenient date for inviting party National Campaign Committee Chairman Narendra Modi to Bangalore.
Mr. Modi, who, after assuming the new responsibility, is visiting several States as part of the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections, was scheduled to visit the State in the last week of September. However, his visit has been postponed. According to party sources, his Bangalore visit had to be postponed, and the State unit is yet to finalise a date for his visit.
“We are setting up a new team of State office-bearers as part of the ongoing organisational elections. This process has to be completed before Mr. Modi’s visit as that marks the commencement of our campaign for the general elections. We are yet to finalise a date for Mr. Modi’s visit,” they said. “If things go as per our plans, then we may invite Mr. Modi in the second week of October. Of course, there will be a public meeting during his visit to launch the poll campaign,” the sources said.
The core committee meeting will also discuss the constitution of the new office-bearers’ team and appointments to some of the district units in a bid to set the stage ready for Mr. Modi’s visit. In addition, the meeting will discuss the nature of the programmes to be organised during Mr. Modi’s visit, the sources said.
The main agenda of the meeting is to analyse the results of the recent by-polls to the three Legislative Council seats in which the BJP lost despite forging an alliance with the Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) of the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and the Janata Dal (Secular). The meeting is expected to take stock of the political developments in the State and the issues related to strengthening its ties with the KJP.
As the party’s leaders are set to launch a State tour tentatively next week as part of the preparations for the general elections, the meeting will finalise the tour schedule.
