The bail plea hearing of Mohammed Nalapad Haris, son of N.A. Haris, MLA, was adjourned to Saturday by the sessions court, while granting time for the prosecution to file more objections till Monday. Mohammed Nalapad and six others have been accused of brutally assaulting Vidvat L. at a restaurant on Saturday night.

While filing objections, the Public Prosecutor submitted that the police are yet to record Vidvat’s statement as he is still undergoing treatment for severe injuries at Mallya Hospital.

The prosecution submitted in its objections that the accused, even after assaulting the victim at the cafe, followed him to the hospital and attempted to kill him to destroy evidence. While arguing against granting bail, the prosecution pointed out that the accused had political power and money, and would be a threat to the victim and witness if bail were granted.

Mohammed Nalapad’s advocate, while filing objections, said the assault case has been hyped owing to the political background of the accused, and the sections under which he has been charged are contradictory.

Shyam Sundar, who has been appointed as Special Public Prosecutor, told the court that he had to verify the details of the investigations so far. The court adjourned the hearing till Saturday.

Senior prison officials denied allegations of preferential treatment being given to Mohammed Nalapad. The court will hear two applications, one filed by Vidvat's father and another by a social sctivist, who wanted to intervene in the case.
