P. Nagabhushan, professor, Department of Studies in Computer Science, University of Mysore, has been appointed the new director of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Allahabad.

Dr. Nagabhushan’s appointment as director will be for a duration of five years, according to an order issued by Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi, on Monday.

“I received a call from the Joint Secretary of MHRD this morning on the appointment. A copy of the appointment order was faxed to the university,” said Dr. Nagabhushan.

The MHRD has asked Dr. Nagabhushan to preside over a meeting of the board of IIIT, Allahabad, on May 22. “So, I will be reporting for duty by the end of this week,” he added.

Dr. Nagabhushan said he envisioned IIIT, Allahabad, to offer an “integrated ambience of creative learning”, while researching for novelties, contributing to the growth of knowledge, and mapping the knowledge into innovations in terms of innovative products and services.

Also, he said he wants the institute to re-engineer the education process itself, devise newer tools, and increasing skills to a higher level. “The entire process of learning and researching should simply result in performing actions innovatively in and across all related faculties of engineering, technology, and science encompassing humanity,” he said.
