People in Raichur and Yadgir districts celebrated Naga Panchami festival with religious fervour.

The festival in these parts is considered a festival of women. As per tradition, women in new saris offered special pujas to the snake idols.

Across the two districts, women poured milk over stone snake idols. Many also offered puja to termitaria as part of the celebrations.

Special dishes, including sweet puri, masala rice and sweet lumps made with a mixture of jaggery, groundnuts and seasame, were distributed to friends and relatives. Newly-wed women celebrated the festival in their parental homes.

“I feel happy to be part of the celebrations and pray to the snake god for the happiness of my parents and in-laws and husband,” said Vijayalakshmi, who got married recently.
