The century-old Mysuru zoo is pinning its hopes on corporates to come forward and adopt its animals under the already popular animal adoption scheme as part of their many Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.

In less than four months, the zoo has collected a record amount in the form of fee towards the adoption of 120 animals. From April 1, 2016 till date, the zoo collected Rs. 33,53,800 as adoption fee.

This is a huge improvement when compared to the fee collected during the same period last year. The total adoption amount received from April 1, 2015 to July 15, 2015 was Rs.14,21,850 for 120 animals.

The Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Ltd., Mysuru, renewed its adoption of two giraffes, a lion and a tiger for the second time under its CSR initiative. The company has adopted the animals for one year by paying a fee of Rs. 4 lakh.

Adoptions renewed

The Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) too renewed its adoption of a giraffe and an elephant. This is the seventh consecutive year that the State-owned Corporation renewed its adoption. KSIC has adopted the animals for a one year period by paying Rs. 2.75 lakh. BRBNML and KSIC have adopted the animals for a period of one year — July 9, 2016 to July 8, 2017 and May 7, 2016 to May 6, 2017— respectively. Meanwhile, the management of Mysuru zoo has thanked BRBNML and KSIC for their gesture.

Outgoing Zoo Executive Director S. Venkatesan said, “We hope that the contributions by BRBNML and KSIC to this novel scheme may motivate other corporates and charitable institutions to adopt more animals under the scheme. Their commitment towards renewing the adoption of large mammals is commendable.”

A team from BRBNML comprising H.S. Thakur Desai, General Manager, B.V. Pagar, Deputy General Manager-PP, and H.L. Puttalinga, Assistant Manager, Welfare recently visited the zoo, completed the adoption formalities and received the adoption certificate from the zoo officials.
