The Department of Public Instruction has taken up the task of mainstreaming 560 children, who were identified as dropouts or out of school in a survey last year.

There is no record of admission of some children for various reasons and the mission is to bring them to schools.

As part of their efforts, ‘Namma Nade Shaleya Kade’ was launched here on Saturday. Students from various schools and participants from NGOs marched on the streets spreading the message of compulsory education for children.

The rally was organised by the District Legal Services Authority with support from the Departments of Public Instruction and Women and Child Development.

DDPI H.R. Basappa told The Hindu that the onus is on all of us to ensure schooling for the 560 children. The enrolment drive will be taken up when schools reopen after vacation, he said.
