Water supply, sewerage and urban transport are set to improve in Mysuru as the Centre has allocated Rs. 50 crore for the city under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.
Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu has approved the Rs. 1,258-crore for Karnataka under the scheme.
Mysuru is one among 27 cities in Karnataka, which has been covered under AMRUT. Bengaluru has bagged the highest allocation of Rs. 173 crore, followed by Raichur with Rs. 77 crore; Hubballi-Dharwad with Rs. 75 crore and Ballari Rs. 72 crore.
Coverage of households with water taps ranged from a low 18 per cent in Chikkamagaluru to 87 per cent in Mandya. Water supply is reported to be in the range of 35 litres per capita per day in Robertsonpet to 106 LPCD in Ranebennur.
The coverage of water taps in Bengaluru is 72 per cent and water supply is at 94 LPCD. None of the 27 mission cities in the State have water supply at the norm of 135 LPCD prescribed for urban areas in the country, said a release.
Mysuru MP Pratap Simha said Rs. 50 crore would be spent on improving water supply and development of parks in the city.
The Mysore City Corporation had proposed to develop ‘model parks’ on specific themes to turn them into a ‘one-stop destination’ for family outings. One model park has been proposed this year for each Assembly constituency — Chamaraja, Narasimharaja, Krishnaraja and Chamundeshwari. The MCC had set aside Rs. 5 crore for the project.
