The Alternative Dispute Redressal Centre to help resolve litigations and reduce pendency in court through mediation and arbitration was inaugurated in the city on Saturday.
The new centre was inaugurated by Justice N.K. Patil, Judge, High Court of Karnataka who is also the administrative judge of Mysuru district. Redressal of disputes through mediations, arbitrations and lok adalat will help litigants secure timely justice without entailing much expenditure, he said.
Cases such as civil suits, motor vehicle accident claims, railway claims, land dispute, bank loan recovery, among others can be settled in the pre-litigation stage itself, he said.
While calling for greater awareness on settling disputes through dialogue, Mr. Patil said this will aid in further reducing pendency of cases in courts.
For instance, the recently-concluded National Lok adalat campaign– that was also held in the State – saw clearance of 2.43 lakh cases pending in the courts, and a further 15 lakh cases in the pre-litigation stage. This has reduced pendency by nearly 18 per cent, said Mr. Patil.
The new ADR Centre is located at Malalvadi and has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 3.30 crore.
K.S. Mudgal, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Mysuru, Ashok G. Nijagannavar, district judge and Member Secretary, Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, V.Srinivas Prasad, Revenue Minister were among those present.
