The Mysuru City Police has sought to take its social media outreach further by starting a Twitter account. It can be followed on @SystemAdm.

The city police already have a Facebook page.

In a statement here on Sunday, outgoing Commissioner of Mysuru City Police M.A. Saleem said the city police also started an Interactive Voice Recording System (IVRS) for the benefit of the public to lodge complaints without having to go to the police station.

Also, in a much-needed relief to autorickshaw commuters, the city police have started an SMS complaint service that provides for lodging a complaint against errant auto rickshaw drivers, who refuse to go on hire or demand excess fare.

M.A. Saleem said the decision to start a Twitter account was taken after seeing the popularity of its Facebook page, which has already garnered more than 10,600 Likes and recorded more than 3.5 lakh page views.

The Twitter account will not only provide information to the public, but also provides a platform for users to make constructive suggestions and give information to the police.

IVRS

The public can make use of the IVRS facility by calling 0821-2418473 and lodging oral complaints within the duration of a minute.

IVRS facility can be made use of to provide information, suggestions or lodging a complaint on issues relating to policing, crime, law and order and traffic. In case of complaints relating to traffic, the vehicle number, time, location and nature of violation should compulsorily be provided to help the police pursue the case.

Auto drivers, beware

Commuters, who face harassment from the autorickshaw drivers can send an sms to 9480802200 in the stipulated format.
