The Mysuru city police, which is investigating the low-intensity blast in the toilet of the court complex here on Monday, is awaiting forensic reports of the material recovered from the site of the explosion.
Police officials said the material used to trigger the explosion had already been collected and sent to the Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL).
The forensic report is expected to take time, as the experts have to chemically analyse the material, which would have been burnt in the explosion. “Now, the forensic science department officials have to give their opinion after examining the samples,” a police official here said.
The material collected so far has already indicated that it was an improvised explosive device (IED). The ballistic experts will also analyse the samples.
The experts from National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Intelligence Bureau (IB), who visited Mysuru in the wake of the explosion, shared their expertise with the investigating officials of Mysuru City Police.
“Officials from these agencies (NIA and IB) go to the spot whenever an explosion takes place to check for the methodology employed to trigger the blast and ascertain if any innovation has been resorted to,” an official said. The officials from the central security agencies also interact and guide the local police conducting the investigation.
Meanwhile, officials conceded that no significant breakthrough has been achieved in the investigations so far. “We don’t have any clue about the motive or the people behind the act,” said a police source.
Except for the similarities that have been drawn with the explosions that had taken place in Kollam in Kerala and Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, little headway has been made.
