Dasara illumination will liven up the city’s festive ambience as a 25-km stretch of road covering major parts of Mysore city and over 42 circles/traffic intersections will glow in bright and colourful lights. With this, the ‘City of Palaces’ will look dazzling and vibrant at night.
Last year, 33 circles and 19-km stretch of roads had been illuminated for the celebrations.
LED and CFL bulbs will be used to light up the city like last year to save on energy and expenses. At least 60 per cent of energy was saved by using LED lights last year.
The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company, which is in charge of Dasara illumination, has managed to rope in more sponsors for lighting up the city.
About 59 business establishments and commercial institutions have come forward to fund the illumination this year. This year, CESC is expected to spend around Rs. 66 lakh, while Rs. 72.7 lakh will be borne by sponsors.
About 54,068 units of power are expected to be consumed for this year’s illumination.
About 18 roads will be illuminated by the CESC, while 51 roads would be lit up by the sponsors.
Many of Mysore’s heritage buildings, some over a century old, have been spruced up with new lighting arrangements, including the Crawford Hall, the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and Divisional Railway Manager, and the K.R. and Cheluvamba Hospitals.
A distance of about 30 km was covered in LED lights that brightened up K.R. Circle, Hardinge Circle, Basaveshwara Circle, Ramaswamy Circle and Metropole Circle.
