Mysore Paper Mills closure: Karnataka to appeal before Green Tribunal

December 17, 2014 12:23 pm | Updated 12:23 pm IST - BELAGAVI:

The State government will appeal before the Green Tribunal in Chennai against the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) order for closure of the Mysore Paper Mills (MPM), which stopped functioning since Monday. Replying to a query raised by BJP member R.K. Siddaramanna during Zero Hour (on Monday), Floor Leader S.R. Patil told the Council on Tuesday that the government had taken the issue seriously and would immediately approach the Green Tribunal for a stay on the order. Mr. S.R. Patil told the Council that in the wake of the CPCB notice, the mill management had taken steps to crush 1.25 tonnes of sugarcane that was already harvested.

Another 75,000 tonnes were yet to be harvested.
