Mysore feels impact of impending Hudhud

The impact of Cyclone Hudhud is being experienced in the city, which received moderate to heavy rain on Saturday.

It was darkness at dusk as the skies opened up and people scampered for cover from the rain whose intensity took them by surprise.

The open drains and low-lying areas were flooded but the intensity of the rain receded quickly and the downpour was supplanted by intermittent drizzle.

This was preceded by intermittent rain on Friday. The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain on Sunday in the region.

The forecast valid till October 14 indicates that moderate to heavy rainfall will occur at many places in south interior Karnataka.

According to Karnataka Disaster Management Centre, Mysore received cumulative rainfall 517.8 mm against the normal rainfall of 453.9 mm from June 1 to October 11, which is 14 per cent above normal.

Mandya district received 470.4 mm rainfall during the same period, against the normal of 375.2 mm, which is 25 per cent above normal.

The pattern is similar in different taluks indicating that rainfall has been uniform and widespread so far. H.D. Kote taluk received cumulative rainfall of 678 mm against the normal of 584.6, while Hunsur received 448.1 mm against a normal of 413.5 mm during the same period, according to weather reports.

K.R. Nagar received 437.7 mm against a normal of 390.7 mm, while Mysore taluk received 514.8 mm against a normal of 387 mm. Nanjangud received 444.7 mm against a normal of 375.4 mm and T. Narsipur received 485.4 mm against a normal of 387.1 mm.
