Even though he has been elevated as the national vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, B.S. Yeddyurappa on Tuesday declared that his complete focus will still be on Karnataka.
“I may have been given the post of the party national vice-president, but my complete focus will be on Karnataka as my single aim now is to bring the party back to power in the State,” Mr. Yeddyurappa said at his first press conference after making it to the list of the party’s national office-bearers.
The former Chief Minister made it clear that the party’s national unit was yet to allocate specific roles to the new office-bearers. “Such a division of task may take place in the first meeting of the office-bearers which is expected to be held soon. Any how, we are meeting party national president Amit Shah to get clarity on such issues, during his visit to Bidar on September 17,” he said. Maintaining that the BJP State leaders had assured Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of contributing to the development of the State by using their contacts with the Centre, he said the ball was in the Chief Minister’s court as he had to respond positively. He denied the possibility of the BJP using new Governor, Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, to crack a whip on the Congress government in the State.
Claiming that the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had done well in terms of development and governance in its first 100 days, Mr. Yeddyurappa predicted that the scenario in all the important sectors would change for the better in about six months from now.
