Murusavir Mutt seer Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swami abstained from a meeting convened here on Sunday to discuss the proposed November 5 rally demanding religion status for Lingayat.

The meeting was convened by the Vishwa Lingayat Mahasabha. The absence of the seer at the meeting gave rise to speculations as he had earlier participated in a similar meeting here and expressed his views in support of the agitation for religion status.

Seer of Murugha Mutt of Dharwad Mallikarjun Swami, who was present at the meeting, regretted that some people with vested interests were indulging in maligning his and the Murusavir Mutt seer’s name for expressing support to the cause.

Meanwhile, MLC Basavaraj Horatti said that the seer was not able to participate in the meeting as he might have been under pressure from some quarters. Arrangements are being made for the successful organisation of the rally on November 5. Steps have been taken to create awareness about the rally in society. About four lakh handbills and stickers have been printed and nearly three lakh caps have been ordered.

Parking facility will be provided at the railway grounds, Murusavir Mutt grounds and other places. The community members have been requested to participate in the rally in large numbers and show a greater sense of unity, he said.
