Members of the Dalit Sangarsh Samiti (DSS) staged a protest here on Friday against the alleged murder of two Dalits reported from Santhemarahalli in Chamarajanagar district, recently.

The victims, identified as Krishnaiah (50) from Deshahalli and Nanjaiah (55) from Kavudavadi villages, were found murdered in an agricultural field at Santhemarahalli, recently. The police had arrested Mahadeva from a banana plantation immediately in connection with the incident.

The DSS members staged a protest on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway and sought severe action against Mahadeva.

The assailant had beheaded innocent Dalits with a machete, put the severed heads in a bag and hid it in the field, the protestors alleged.

They demanded a probe by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into the incident and urged the government to provide police protection for Dalits in the two villages.

DSS leader Guruprasad Keregodu and others led the protest.
