Murder attempt: Police launch probe to trace accused

The Kirugavalu police have launched an investigation to trace the accused, who allegedly tried to set a woman and her daughter on fire at Hangarapura in Malavalli taluk of the district.

Nanjunda, a small and marginal farmer, along with his family members, allegedly tried to kill his wife Ranjitha (25) and N. Imphana (4) at his residence on Tuesday. However, Ms. Ranjitha managed to douse the flames and escaped from the residence. They were rushed to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) Hospital in the town.

“We have initiated measures to trace the accused - Nanjunda, his mother Kempamma, Nanjunda’s brother Shivanna and two others – in connection with the case,” a senior police officer, who is familiar with the case, told The Hindu .

According to preliminary investigation, Nanjunda wanted a divorce from his wife. His mother and others reportedly supported his decision. Over the past several months, the couple used have frequent fights.
