Mulbagal taluk in Kolar district is one of the places selected for the implementation of the Centrally sponsored National Drinking Water Security Pilot Project (NDWSPP). It is aimed at developing water resources and creating proper system for supplying drinking water to rural areas.

Mulbagal is one of the 15 blocks in 10 States across the country where the project will be implemented.
Mulbagal is the only place in Karnataka where the project will be implemented on an experiment basis.
Besides Mulbagal, the other places where the pilot project will be launched are: Gorantala, Moothe and Pileru in Andhra Pradesh, Kheralu in Gujarat, Khital in Haryana, Piploda and Rampur Bagelan in Madhya Pradesh, Varud and Morshi in Maharashtra, Dhuri in Punjab, Raipur in Rajasthan, Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu, and Mouranipur and Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh.
According to Deputy Commissioner D.S. Vishwanath, the Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) in 30 gram panchayats in Mulbagal taluk have been instructed to prepare a plan for conservation of water resources and its proper management.
He said that engaging the local community in conservation and management of water resources is one of the aims of the pilot project. Besides that, stress will also be laid on maintaining a clean environment, and management and processing of waste in select villages.
In order to implement the National Drinking Water Security Pilot Project, assistance whenever needed would be sought of authorities implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Integrated Watershed Development Programme and National Rural Drinking Water Project.
