Planning to contest LS polls from Bangalore
Kannada Development Authority (KDA) chairman and former Bharatiya Janata Party MLC Mukhyamantri Chandru resigned from primary membership of the BJP on Thursday citing personal reasons.
The previous BJP government, headed by former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had appointed Mr. Chandru as the chairman of the KDA. The Congress had not objected to his continuation as the KDA chief. His term comes to an end in seven months.
Mr. Chandru, who has submitted his resignation letter to BJP State president Pralhad Joshi, said he was planning to contest the Lok Sabha elections from one of the constituencies of Bangalore, with the support of pro-Kannada organisations. However, he has not ruled out joining the Congress.
Mr. Chandru was in the BJP for the last three decades. He said his resignation from the primary membership of the BJP was because of personal reasons, and urged the State BJP chief to accept his resignation immediately. A copy of the resignation letter was also sent to BJP leaders Jagadish Shettar, K.S. Eshwarappa, D.V. Sadananda Gowda, R. Ashok and Santosh G.
Mr. Chandru, who is a versatile actor and has done several roles in Kannada films and TV serials, thanked BJP leaders for supporting him during his long stint in the party.
