Ramesh Jigajinagi, MP, launched on Friday, a project for the development of Makhanapur village of the taluk under MP’s ‘Adarsha Gram Yojana’, a brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Located some 18 kms from the city, the villages has been chosen by Mr. Jigajinagi for the comprehensive development by providing basic facilities with the assistance of State government and his local area development funds.

Having a population of nearly 3,500, the village, according to the residents, has been crying for numerous facilities for years.

“The village has no primary health centre, roads are in bad shape, in the absence of public toilets, people are using open field for defecation, in the name of transport facility, only one government bus ply in a day”, said, Shankrappa Pujar, a local resident.

Earlier, speaking at the launch of the programme, Deputy Commissioner, D. Randeep said that Adarsha Gram village primarily focuses on proper planning before its execution.

Stating that proper planning was a crucial aspect in development, he said that the Union Government has given greater emphasis on preparing a comprehensive plan.

“This is the reason why the project gives even four months of period to prepare a broad plan for the development of the village by involving the people, district administration and the MP”, he said.

Informing that since the participation of the people was an intrinsic part of the scheme, Mr. Randeep said that the people would be first called to offer their suggestions and demand. Later, the District level officials would pool the funds from various resources for implementation of the project before taking advice and guidance of the MP.

Addressing the villagers, Mr. Jigajinagi called for the people cooperation in the implementation of the project to convert the village into a ‘model village’ in the district.

Later, speaking to The Hindu , some of the resident wondered why Mr. Jigajinagi did not provide these facilities to the village during his last five year tenure before being elected for second term.

“Today, he is saying that since Modi has asked the MPs, thus he has selected the village, does it mean that the MP would not have tried to develop the village if Modi had not asked for?”, they wondered.
