The three, also accused in Gujarat serial blasts case, produced before CJM in Ballari
Three accused in the Gujarat serial blasts case were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) here in connection with a motorcycle theft case committed in Koppal in 2007.
The accused - Asadullah of Hosapete, Rajuddin of Hubballi and Shakeel Ahmed of Kalaburagi - based on a body warrant, were brought in heavy police bandobust from Gujarat to Ballari and produced before the CJM on Monday morning.
According to Manjunath B., Senior Public Prosecutor (in-charge), Asadulla had lifted a motorcycle in Koppal in 2007. Later, he was arrested by Honnali police and during interrogation was said to have given information about it. Later, Koppal police took up the investigation and filed a charge sheet in 2013.
Meanwhile, Asadullah and two others, who were reportedly on bail, were arrested by Gujarat police on charges of their involvement in the serial blasts case that rocked Surat and Ahemdabad in 2008.
As the accused were facing charges of involvement in terrorist activities and were lodged in prison in Gujarat, they could not be produced before the Koppal court for trial. Later, the Karnataka High Court directed that the motorcycle theft case should be tried through video conference. As there was no such facility in Koppal, the High Court directed that the case should be transferred to Ballari, which has the facility.
The CJM adjourned the case for trial on August 7, 8 and 9 and directed that till then the accused should be lodged in Ballari Central jail.
