The State government-appointed administrator of the Sri Vyasaraja Math, K. Jairaj, has said a lot remains to be done to safeguard the vast properties of the math that is spread across the southern States, and expressed resentment over the non-cooperation of the peetadhipathi (pontiff).
He told presspersons here on Monday that the two-year term given to him by the government in 2012 was drawing to a close and an extension is now before the government. An advisory committee, including the former Chief Justice of India, M.N. Venkatachaliah, has been guiding the administrator in his work.
Mr. Jairaj, a former Additional Chief Secretary to the State government, called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday and briefed him on the management of the Sri Vyasaraja Math. He said one among the tasks that remains to be completed is that of resuming the alienated properties. “Before the State government took over the administration of the math, large-scale alienation of properties at various places was done by the swami. The properties alienated by him are to be brought back to the fold of the Sri Vyasaraja Math (Sosale) by instituting recovery suits in accordance with law. This is a very big task,” he said.
Of a total 52 branches of the math, 22 have already been taken over by the administrator. “The remaining are yet to be taken over as the pontiff is not co-operating in handing over the properties, and they can be taken over only after conducting a proper inventory. Simultaneously, the list of moveable and immoveable properties of the respective branches are also to be listed,” he said.
Mr. Jairaj said, by and large, all the leakage in the math’s revenues has been plugged. Of the 22 branches that was taken over by the administrator, accounts, including receipts and payments, have been streamlined with an inbuilt transparency and auditing of accounts by a third party. In the remaining 30 branches, , there is a necessity of plugging leakages in revenues in the areas of seva collections, hundi collections and rent collections, he said.
Renovation and restoration works of the buildings owned by the math are also to be undertaken, particularly the civil structures which are in a dilapidated condition. These includes the math branches at Srirangam in Tamil Nadu, T. Narsipur in Mandya district, Benne Govindappa Road Math in Bangalore and Subramanyanagar, and Vyasarajapura and Bannur in Mysore district.
Apart from all the dharmic activities which have been streamlined in recent months, the official website of the math www.srivyasarajamathasosale. org was recently inaugurated by Sudha Murty, chairperson of Infosys foundation.
