Ishwarayya A., art critic, said on Wednesday that “Dasa Sahitya” was a rich cultural heritage which must be preserved and promoted, and transmitted to the next generation.
He was presiding over the inauguration of the week-long Dasa Kirtana music camp for children and students organised by the Kanakadasa Study Centre, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and Sarigama Bharati Music School at the Nutana Ravindra Mantapa, here.
Mr. Ishwarayya said that children participating in the camp should put in all their efforts to learn Dasa Kirtanas. They should not learn it just to forget it as this would not serve any purpose. They should also try to understand the various “ragas” of Carnatic music, which was structured. One of the advantages of such camps was that they taught the participants rare “Dasa Kirtanas,” he said.
Tanmay Goswami, Ayurveda physician, said that music had a soothing effect on the minds of people. Many children are now suffering from Attention Deficiency Disorder. Music had the power to calm the minds of children. Parents should send their children to such music camps as this would help them learn about their cultural heritage, he said.
B. Gopalacharya, Director of Vadiraja Samshodhana Peetha, H. Krishna Bhat, Director of Kanakadasa Study Centre, H.S. Udayashankar of Sarigama Bharati Music School, were present.
The children were later taught rare compositions of the “Haridasas” by Vidushi Vrinda Acharya from Bengaluru.
